A few weeks ago, when Justin Timberlake released the first single off his new album, “Filthy”, it left me scratching my head… Not because the track wasn’t a perfectly typical JT jam, but because of his own claims that his first album in 5 years, entitled Man of the Woods, would pay homage to his Memphis roots and infuse more of a “Southern American” vibe… something that was not apparent at all in “Filthy”!
But now, Justin has made good on those Country-inspired promises with his brand new single, “Say Something” feat. Chris Stapleton! The song and music video, which just dropped today, still preserves that familiar electro-pop sound we would expect from JT but the added influence of Stapleton definitely gives it a more Southern American feel. The two genres mesh seamlessly, and to be honest, Stapleton is more of the star here than JT… imagine outshining Justin Timberlake on his own track!
But honestly, it’s a win-win here. Ever since the two teamed up at the 2015 CMAs, this has been a match made an heaven waiting to happen, and they really knocked it out of the park on this one… Soulful, introspective, melancholy, “Say Something” literally hits all the right notes. Check it out below!
Incidentally, Stapleton is scheduled to appear as the musical guest on "Saturday Night Live" this weekend.... considering JT is a frequent visitor to the show as well, don't be surprised to see the two of them bust out this jam on SNL!
